Gluon Art and research Open Call FreeYou Next

GLUON Education invites an artist to participate in a residency as part of the FreeYou Next project. This initiative, supported by the European Commission, aims to promote media literacy with a focus on fact-checking, news distribution and AI’s impact on media consumption.

As an artist, you will take on “The Fake City” challenge with the aid of GLUON and digital tools and media, such as generative AI programmes, image and video manipulation systems or audiovisual materials. This challenge revolves around raising awareness about the prevalence and impact of image manipulation, deepfakes and visual disinformation and the power of artistic interventions in encouraging critical visual literacy.

In this context, the artist will take part in the GLUON FakeCityLab. Together with youngsters and ICT-experts, the artist will aim to produce prototypes about media literacy, which can take the form of AR/VR applications and/or physical projects with arduino’s and other data visualization tools. These prototypes will be exhibited at the end of the week during a small exhibition at MuntPunt (not confirmed).

In more practical terms, the role of the artist will be to provide inspiration and understanding of the subject of data literacy to youngsters. He/She will accompany GLUON during the whole SPRINT-week (12-16th February 2024) and help the youngsters with the realization and design of their own individual projects. He/She is expected to show some inspiring works and to help with brainstorming and critical thinking to ensure that the youngsters produce thought-out projects by the end of the week.
