Rafaël Rozendaal is one of the most well-known figures in digital art. Already in the early 2000s he conceived, presented and sold works in the form of websites. In his current NFTs, too, he creates references to art history and uses generative blockchain technologies to do so. Rozendaal's art materializes as an immersive installation, in browser windows, as an artist's book, and in public space.
A highlight of the exhibition is the walk-in presentation of the 81 Horizons (2021) in the large exhibition hall. The 81-part NFT series is presented on more than 1,000 square meters as an immersive video installation in which our visual experience on screens and in browser windows is juxtaposed with contemplative strolling in an exhibition situation. Rozendaal plays with the art-historical topos of the horizon line and for his abstractions compresses two monochrome color fields and a line into a 0.3 KB file that is permanently inscribed in the blockchain. By transferring the NFT series into the museum space, it can be physically experienced by the public.
