In virtual space, visionary designs and fictional scenarios in architecture and urban planning can be dreamed up without the restrictions of the real world.
Design methods such as renderings and AI algorithms have rapidly gained popularity: Computational tools such as these have not only changed the conception and drafting process of designers and architects, but also our cultural, social, political and aesthetic understanding of how we Design, experience and navigate space.
The exhibition /imagine: A journey into the New Virtuality presents an overview of the diverse design strategies of the "New Virtuality" and brings together exciting, partly newly produced projects by international contemporary architects, designers and artists, which in different ways deal with the challenges and potential of virtual space and the associated social, ecological, political and infrastructural effects.
Divided into four chapters – Speculative Narratives and Worldbuilding, Research Investigations, Dreamscapes , and AI and Algorithmic Variation – the exhibition presents a wide range of works that create new narratives, perspectives, and possibilities for action in virtual space that can continue in physical reality.
/imagine: ("imagine") is the command that allows users to design their own architectural utopias with the Midjourney software. Based on descriptive text, an AI generates images that can be infinitely varied.
